Since 1997 , the State of Pakistan's Children Report, flagship publication, has been documenting the situation of children in Pakistan. The report provides a systematic overview of the annual developments in various sectors that are relevant to children including child rights, education, health, violence against children, administration of juvenile justice and child labor. The report highlights the policy, legislative and administrative initiatives in each sector and monitors their effectiveness in providing relief to the children of Pakistan. In this regard, the reports have contributed to research and awareness on children's issues and its findings have been used to hold the state and society responsible.
it is disheartening to note that the reports have consistently revealed a deteriorating state in children of Pakistan. the year 2012 was no different in this regard as children in Pakistan coped with lack of educational opportunities, poor health conditions, a near absence of protection for poor and vulnerable children, dismal conditions in juvenile jails and continued employment in hazardous occupation. the government's tenure is notable for the adoption of a number of human and child rights laws. However, the laws were enacted only recently and it will be matter of time before their full impacts in improving the state of child rights and child protection can be gauged. Furthermore, a number of bills related to children are still pending after the transfer of power from the caretaker government to New Elected Government. It was hoped that the new set up after elections would not waste time in passing the pending legislation.
Pakistan signed and ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990. Following the ratification of the treaty, state parties are expected to take legislative, administrative and other measures for the realization of the rights of the Child.......
